Start with what buyers will see first

Entry areas, living rooms, kitchens and the main bedroom usually deserve early attention because they shape first impressions and photography.

Reduce rather than empty

The aim is not to make the home look vacant. Keep enough furniture and everyday items for the home to feel lived in, while removing visual overload.

Pack non essentials early

Seasonal items, collections, extra linen, rarely used appliances and excess decor can usually be packed before the campaign begins.

Treat cupboards as part of the inspection

Buyers may open wardrobes, pantries and linen cupboards. Leave them functional and easy to understand rather than tightly packed.

Plan the exit route

Decide where packed belongings, donations, sale items and rubbish will go before the decluttering session begins.
